BRITANNIA FC

BRITANNIA FC

Sunday 17th October saw the Britannia FC away to Dengo FC in the Premier Cup. The Brit won this scrappy game 1- 0 with a fine header from Tommy Lamb.

Sunday 24th October saw Britannia FC win their game against D.O.W. by 3 goals to 2. The first half was 0 - 0 and the Brit took a second half lead with a well worked Collins goal. But two quick goals from D.O.W saw the Brit trail 1 - 2 with little time left. However an individual goal from Lamb and a good finish from Collins saw the Brit secure a deserved win.

FA NATIONAL CUP

Sunday 10th October saw the first round of the FA National Cup. The Brtiannia FC played Seaburn FC from the Crosby League. The Brit started very well and should have had a penalty when Collins was tripped in the area. The Brit kept up the pressure for the first goal but missed a couple of chances. Then with the last kick of the first half, Seaburn took the lead.

The second half was a disaster for the Brit as they conceded three goals all due to mistakes. But to their great credit they kept trying and pulled two goal back and with a bit of luck could have had another three – with efforts by Lamb (see photo), Tobo and Paul Phillips all going close. But time ran out for the Brit and the final score was Britannia FC 2 – Seaburn FC 4.

Close Shave

Above Tommy Lamb (9) sees his header go agonisingly close – just past the post – which would have put the Brit right back in the game at 4 - 3

A line of thanks is given to Larry Buckley from the Parrot Pub for the excellent Buffet provided for all after the game. Good luck to Seaburn in the next round.

The Britannia’s league form this season has been hot and cold – winning the first game 6 – 4 against Elm House. Then a 1 – 1 draw, then a 7 – 0 win over Clifton, then two defeats. They picked themselves up with a trip to Chorley to play Addlington Rovers in the Lancashire Champions Cup winning 5 – 1 with a good all round display. Goals from Lamb 2 – and Brown 1, Cassidy 1 and Collins 1. Hopefully we can progress in this competition – we will keep you posted on this ans all other cup games.

Good luck and best wishes go to Leyton McGivern the Britannia forward who has joined the pro ranks signing for Rochdale FC. We will keep an eye on their results. Well done Leyton.
